We collaborated with Timber to design Raven, an innovative infrastructure monitoring platform that would later be part of the acquisition by Datadog. Raven was conceived as a comprehensive solution for modern DevOps teams, integrating infrastructure monitoring, log management, error tracking, and network performance monitoring into a single, powerful platform. Our goal was to create an intuitive interface that could handle complex data visualization while remaining accessible to both seasoned professionals and newcomers in the field.
The design challenge lay in presenting vast amounts of technical data in a clear, actionable format. We focused on creating a clean, modern interface that prioritized data readability and quick access to critical information. Our design system ensured consistency across the platform's various features, allowing for a seamless user experience as teams navigated between different monitoring tasks.
The heart of Raven is its customizable dashboard, providing users with a comprehensive overview of their infrastructure's health. The dashboard is designed to be both informative at a glance and deeply interactive, allowing users to drill down into specific metrics and alerts as needed.
Raven's graph editor is a powerful tool for visualizing complex data relationships. It allows users to create custom visualizations tailored to their specific monitoring needs, with an intuitive interface for both formatting and data input.
The platform's indexing capabilities allow for efficient querying and visualization of large datasets. Users can easily create and manage views, enabling quick access to frequently used data slices.
Raven's query editor is designed for both power and ease of use. It supports complex queries while providing helpful features like saved queries, customizable views, and an intuitive configuration interface.
Log tailing is a critical feature for real-time monitoring. Raven's tailing interface is designed for clarity and performance, allowing users to track log entries as they occur and quickly identify issues.
